As the sun welcomes us to a new day, peaking up over houses, trees and all of us here on earth, it’s nice to think that all of you out there are under the same sun.  I’m seeing what you’re seeing, feeling the warmth that you’re feeling, and loving that it makes us feel closer to even those who are far away.

As Summer begins to close, we are still a long way from the bare, dead foliage of winter.  Winter is lovely in its own way, but the living things that abound in Summer give a feeling of fresh life.

Even though the warm morning sun is shining right down on them, the plant life in our yard seems to be getting ready for Christmas, changing into hues and colors of red and green.

But who wants to be ready for Christmas now?  I’m still celebrating the end of Summer!

Pretty soon Fall will arrive, and with it the harvest, the celebration of plenty.

The cold of Winter is far enough away that we don’t have to think about everything being bare and dormant just yet.

So, as the sun goes down on another wonderful Summer day, I’ll think of you as you enjoy the same setting sun and the same warmth as I am, and I’ll feel like you’re right here.

Some things just never cease to amaze me.  I guess some things shouldn’t amaze me, but then I don’t mind that some people have considered me to be naive, half-witted, or not-in-the-know about things that still bring about a little wonder in me.

At a doctor’s visit a few days ago on an overcast day, a flock of geese landed in the grass beside the parking lot just as we were walking out to our truck.  This in itself is not that amazing so much as the way they kept moving closer to the vehicles and didn’t seem to mind us as we approached them.

Don’t get me wrong, we didn’t just dumbly walk right up to them calling “Here, goosey goosey goosey.”  But they ended up right in front of the truck, and to get to the truck we had to walk right up to them.

They didn’t hiss at us or anything, and they even posed for a few pictures.

Once we were home, we had another visiter waiting for us in our yard.

This little rabbit is much smaller than our rabbit friend that I have posted about before, but this one also didn’t mind me taking his picture.  I just stooped down underneath a tree and snapped away.

What amazed me about this day, and a lot of other days, was that I don’t live way out in the country, or even on the fringes of town.  I live right in a populated town, and yet we see wildlife like this every day, the bulk of which I see but don’t manage to get a picture of.

I lived in the middle of the woods for years, and I didn’t see wildlife this often.

One final thing on this day that never ceases to amaze me and never will:

I can never get enough of a beautiful evening sky!

Have an amazing, wonderful day!

Mr. Sun got caught in the power lines when he rose early yesterday morning, so I helped him get loose — he thanked me by shining all day.

Our corner of the world was happy to see Mr. Sun, including the flowers.

Mr. Rabbit was so happy to see Mr. Sun that he allowed me closer than I’d ever been to get a picture of him.

But Miss Ladybug was scurrying around in too big a hurry to stop and let me get a clear picture of her.  “We’re wasting daylight!” she exclaimed.

So Lucy and I sat out in the sunshine and lazed around for awhile — well, Lucy chased birds and got into things.

So then City Boy took Lucy to be washed, clipped and groomed.

We stayed in the house for a while and I worked on some projects while Lucy rested from her grooming ordeal.  Then City Boy and I ran some errands.  When we got back it was evening and the sun was setting.

Looking up in the sky from our front yard we saw Mr. Moon shining brightly, while blue and pink clouds danced around him.

Mr. Moon wasn’t full, but he still made a good showing.

Looking up at the sky from the back yard found some pink clouds that had decided to call it a day and head home.

City Boy, Lucy and I decided to call it a day too.

I thought maybe I would try to get a picture of the Supermoon my friend Cindy reminded me about.  That’s going to be tonight — how exiting!

Have an exciting night and a week full of sunshiny days!

Oklahoma residents have experienced more than their share of tragedy this month, and still continue to.  This picture was taken from the back door of our house the evening of the Moore, Oklahoma tragedy where, included in the tornado’s path, was a school full of children.  The storm tore through there and then traveled up to where we live and beyond.  We experienced some really rough weather, but not near the caliber Oklahoma received.  It’s a contradiction in terms, but this kind of sunset is ominously pretty.

Storms continue to rage in Oklahoma and parts of surrounding states, giving the hardest hit places no time to recover before the next storm arrives.  We are praying that Oklahoma and other states in “Tornado Alley” have a much needed respite from the storms soon, and that no other lives are lost.

Hangin’ Out By the Fence

Because of our dog Lucy, I tend to see an awful lot of the old wooden fence surrounding our back yard.  Lucy doesn’t like to go outside and play by herself.  I don’t really blame her, but I figure I shouldn’t have to wait on her while she does her business at the end of play time, and she tends to disagree with that.  But it gives me time in the evening to take pictures of….well, whatever’s there.

Our rabbit hole in the fence that City Boy leaves for the rabbit -- the same as he leaves the lawn overgrown for them

Okay, well, Lucy is ready to go in.  I’m still hoping to catch our bunny in the yard one day…

Sometimes a sunset gives us humans here on earth glorious, exciting, breathtaking finales to our day, lighting the sky with fire and flame and making us inwardly ooo and aahh.  Last evening, Frank called me out to sit and look at the sunset, and it wasn’t that kind of sunset.  Sometimes a sunset is wonderful because it is peaceful and calm, with soothing colors that give a feeling of “All is well,” and a wonderful curtain call to our day.

A Walk Around Town

Actually, that title is not exactly accurate.  City Boy and I went on a drive here and there, and very little walking was done — it was cold outside!  So. I”m a wimp and everybody should know.  Also, it was actually more than one outing, I just consolidated.  So, in four words I was dishonest twice.  I really didn’t mean to be, but I’m not changing the title because I’m lazy!

Another couple of sunset pictures here — I know I’ve been doing a lot of sky lately, but I just can’t get enough of the beautiful sunsets.  I mean, one night they will be a tapestry of many colors, and the next it may look like the sky is on fire with bright orange.  The next night it may be a subdued blue and white pattern in the sky.  They’re all beautiful, and I can never get enough.

Fire In the Sky

I didn't know I caught that airplane in the picture until after I processed the photo, so I just thought I'd throw this one in

I didn’t know I caught that airplane in the picture until after I processed the photo, so I just thought I’d throw this photograph in for fun.

On a different outing I was looking for picturesque barns and buildings.

Barn In Winter Field

Country Stop Sign

Actually I was going to try to write some sort of poem to go along with this picture, something about a stop sign in the road of life sort of thing.  But I’ve discovered to my dismay that I do not have the poetry writing ability that I had in high school.  So, this picture shall remain poetry-less for the time being.  If anybody has a verse they can come up with, feel free to share it!  This picture has a poem in it, I just know it, lol!

Ice and Sun

A few days after an ice storm we went for a drive and tried to get a good shot of the ice glistening from the grass and branches as the sun shone down on it.  The picture doesn’t do the beauty of it justice.  It was like little diamonds everywhere, and it hardly shows in this picture.  Maybe I should start learning to take videos.  Yeah, that’s the ticket, something else I can be bad at for awhile.

Barn and Silo

Old Barn

On this day is when we took the picture of the day moon that I had in the Weekly Photo Challenge a few days ago.  Well, actually, I took the picture and City Boy was the wheel man.  But I thought I’d work it in here, too, since it goes along with the other photos.

Day Moon

All of these pictures were taken on the outskirts of town or in town, and even in winter there are some pretty picturesque things to see here.  Spring will simply dazzle you.  I can’t wait to show you!

Just got some hot-off-the-press pictures of Becca’s Precious Baby, who is now three months old.  City Boy and I are getting more and more anxious for Easter weekend and our trip to Texas so we can meet Precious Baby for the first time!

I’m telling ya, Easter can’t get here fast enough!  Don’t forget wonderful Daylight Savings tonight — boooo, hiss, we lose an hour!  Lol, have a wonderful night and a great Sunday!

Sunset Without Power Lines (Well Almost)

The night before our big snowstorm last night we were gifted with a really nice sunset.  The view off of our back porch, although we live in a rural town, is surprisingly free (mostly) from power lines and poles in the way of the sky view.  Here are a few shots of the tapestry the sun made as it left us for the evening.

Sunset1

Sunset2

Sunset3

By the next evening we were getting ready for an overnight snow and ice storm, so we were at the store stocking up and at  home battening down the hatches.  Last night it hit, but I will say we didn’t get as much of it as some of our other midwest neighbors.  This was the view through our front window this morning.

Window View

Lucy went out to play (and do a few other things), and I went out with her to take a few pictures.  Our poor adirondack chairs have really taken a beating this winter.

Back Yard

Cold place to sit!

And I was just playing with the camera….

Adirondack Chair

Lucy loves snow, and always plays in it — I got a little video footage of her that I’m too embarrassed to show anybody.  She is a gray and white dog but after running around in the snow she is brown.  She will always find the one spot in the yard that is muddy and make it muddier.  But it’s easy to tell she doesn’t mind the snow…

Paw Prints

Snow is so pretty, and I enjoy it.  At the same time, I won’t be unhappy when Spring comes.  Hope all of you are staying warm and enjoying what’s left of Winter!

This week has been sort-through-all-the-photos week.  Some I went through were very old (like the ones in a previous post I made about my dad) and some have been taken as recently as this week.  I thought I’d post some of my “finds,” but keep in mind that I did not say that all of these pictures were filled with the expertise that you have come to expect from a stellar photographer like myself (okay, stop gagging — I was being sarcastic).

I found some pictures from a family photo session of my parents and brother from a little ways back-in-the-day.  I know a bunch of old photos of people you don’t know aren’t usually all that interesting, and these were done in 1991.  But I found them kind of comical and I just had to show them to you.  These were done after my older brother and I had left home and had families of our own, so it is just my parents and younger brother Perry in the pictures.

English: Photographer: Alicia Williams User:Es...

My brother was an average sweet baby, and then ended up with a bad case of Scarlet Fever when he was very young.  Back in those days Tylenol and Children’s Motrin had not been invented, and high fevers like that had to be brought down any way possible.  So, the high fevers left Perry with some damage to his brain.  Scarlet Fever exists today; they just call it a form of strep and give out antibiotics and fever reducer.  My own son had it as a kid.  But back in the day when my brother was little, it was a much bigger deal.

When my brother was around 5 he was labeled “retarded,” which was the actual clinical label they used, along with “mentally retarded” (ugh).  Fortunately nowadays, they use much less demeaning terms, such as “Special Needs.”  Anyway, that’s the only sad part of this post — flash forward about 25 years and back to how this applies to why Perry reacts certain ways to photo sessions: At an early age, Perry began to realize that he hated the flash from a camera (who can blame him?); he didn’t understand the flash, and so many pictures of him show him reacting to just that.

So, there the family was, at the photography place for a family photo, my dad, mom and brother.  First they started with my brother by himself, because my parents wanted a great picture of just him.

Perry

Nope, try again.

Perry

Cover of "My Name Is Earl - The Album"

Nope, not this time either.  This looks like “My Name Is Earl.”

On the third try (some sort of record; it usually took more times than three!) a picture of him with his eyes open finally emerged.

Perry

Doesn’t he look happy??

Next were the family shots.  As each progressive picture is taken with Perry’s eyes closed in them, Mom’s expression gets progressively unhappy.  Dad, on the other hand, looks great in all of the pictures!

Family Photo

Family Photo

Family Photo

Finally, the photographer gets a shot in which Perry looks great — eyes open, pleasant look on his face — perfect!  Except that Mom has finally lost total interest in even looking at the camera.  Woops.

Family Photo

Well, better luck next year.

Anyway, I thought they were funny (guess you had to be there)!

Here’s another set of photos (not very good quality ones taken by me) from when I moved a full-length mirror into the living room and Lucy saw herself for the first time.  The mirror is directly in front of where she is staring …

Lucy In Mirror

Lucy In Mirror

Lucy In Mirror

Lucy In Mirror

Aw, she doesn’t like the mirror any more and this next look says it all:

“Please get that scary other dog away from me!”

Lucy Scared

Who could resist a plea like that?  So, I moved the mirror back where it belonged — away from Lucy.

A week or so ago I tried to get a picture of the sky one evening just when the sun was slipping down.  When you live in town it’s hard to get a decent picture of that because of my number one nemesis in photographing outdoors, power lines and power poles.  So, I captured a few pictures, one out my back door and one out my front door, of what little of the sky did not have power lines or poles, or rooftops.

Winter Sky

Winter Sky

I’m really pumped to go a little ways out of town and take some really nice pictures of trees and sky — but (sound of whining) it’s cold!  I’ll muscle some fortitude up one of these days soon, because there are really pretty sunrises and sunsets to be photographed (assuming I can get my butt out of bed to do the former).

So ends today’s random photo display — I really do hope you got a kick out of some of it!

Today’s reminder:

5881202_sRemember your special someone on Valentine’s day!!  Six more days to prepare something really awesome!
